Saturday, January 12, 2008 @ 1/12/2008 04:51:00 PMdoing report
im trying to start on my group processes now and for the 1st time in a my life in doing reports im HOOKED to a source of reference...so intriguing..ahaha..CHECK OUT THESE WORDS OF WISDOM ABOUT THE MOST HEAVENLY ACTIVITY ON EARTH..ahaha..*listening to midnight ramblers as i do this is just making this so much more inspirational and fun*Plato reports Socrates as saying that: Musical training is more potent instrument than any other, because rhythm and harmony find their way into the inward places of soul, imparting grace, and making the soul of him who is rightly educated graceful. Plato, The Republic of Plato, third edition, translated by Benjamin Jowett, (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1888) Book III, p.88. (Heal, M. & Wigram, T. (Eds.) (1993) Music therapy in health and education. United Kingdom: Jessica Kingsley Publishers) Timaeus Plato wrote: All audible musical sound is given for the sake of harmony, which has motions akin to the orbits in our soul and which, as anyone who makes intelligent use of arts knows, is not be used as is commonly thought, to give irrational pleasure, but as heaven-sent ally in reducing to order and hamony any disharmony in the revolutions within us. Rhythm, again, was given us from the same heavenly source to help us in the same way; for most of us lack measure and grace. Plato, Timaeus and Critias, translate and introduced by Desmond Lee, ( London: Penguin Books, 1977) p.65 (Heal, M. & Wigram, T. (Eds.) (1993) Music therapy in health and education. United Kingdom: Jessica Kingsley Publishers) COOL OR WHAT MANNN?!?! i am SERIOUSLY thinking about taking up a music therapy module when i go over to australia..that is if there are no pre-requisites like a grade 1 in music if not well..there you go again...ahahaha...should go check out if usyd or la trobe have..hmmmmmm...so far havent heard of anyone who's made mention.. ok..back to the damn report... back to top? |
